Luke 14:27-28. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
Thought for the Day: Discipleship Has A Cost
Reflection for the Day: The Journey Begins With Self-Denial
To see only the victory of the resurrection of Jesus and ignore the suffering that the Lord endured would be misleading. Jesus, not only at Calvary, but throughout His walk suffered much. It is with this awareness that He prepares those that would follow Him to recognize there is a cost. The journey of every saint must begin with self-denial. There must be an acknowledgment and acceptance that discipleship has a cost.
To believe that one can walk with the Lord without a cost is completely false. It is a fact that God provides and blesses His children, but it is also true, they must be willing to deny themselves, pick up their cross, and then are able to follow Him. Discipleship has a cost.
